Show Abstract
This presentation emphasizes measurement and analysis exercises appropriate for an introductory course in acoustics and/or noise control, or for a course in acoustic measurements. The exercises are chosen to represent the blending of measurement and interpretation required by acousticians without elaborate laboratories. The critical question is “How do we obtain useful information in spite of a hostile (less than ideal) environment?” One set of demonstrations illustrates complementary frequency and time domain analysis techniques for in‐situ measurements. The areas of application, advantages, and pitfalls of each technique are discussed. Another suggested exercise involves the relationship between sound‐field surveys and their environmental implications.
